In the 2020–2021 Leaving Certificate history syllabus the Case Studies to be studied and examined through documents are drawn from the Later Modern History of Europe and the Wider World Topic 6, The United States and the World 1945–1989.
The Case Studies are:
The Montgomery bus boycott, 1956
Lyndon Johnson and Vietnam, 1963–1968
The moon landing, 1969
This book deals with these Case Studies separately from the rest of the Topic.
Each Case Study starts with an essay which places it in its context.
This is followed by a detailed account of the events of the Case Study.
Finally there is a brief summary of subsequent developments influenced by the events of the Case Study.
To help students become used to reading documents, each Case Study is accompanied by relevant documents and questions relating to these documents.
For each Case Study there are two exam-type document questions so that students can become familiar with the way in which documents are treated in the Leaving Certificate History examination.
Relevant key personalities and concepts are also included.
Great care has been taken to keep the language and concepts accessible to students of all ability levels.
